This Lowell Middle School Opened an in-school Barbershop to Give Kids Free Haircuts
Sorry, my typing is a little inhibited as I attempt to type this. My eyes have a little water in them because I’m moved by the humanity coming out of Lowell. Sullivan Middle School in Lowell has added an in-house barbershop where students can get free haircuts.
The school opened the barbershop because they’re sensitive to the fact that some members of their community struggle financially more than others. Some don’t have cars. Some are homeless. Finding the money for a haircut is very difficult for some families, much less arranging transportation to get to the barbershop or hair salon. Realizing that this puts kids in a potentially embarrassing and uncomfortable situation, the school opted to put a fun barbershop inside the school. I don’t know about you but I couldn’t love that decision any more.
“Husky Kutz” had its official ribbon cutting this week and will start offering cuts in December. Husky Kutz is named after the school’s husky mascot.
The man with the scissors is master barber Joseph L’Heureux, co-owner of The Shoppe LLC in Dracut, who will be volunteering his time each week. And in case it wasn’t clear, every haircut, every blow out, every fade will cost $0.00.
To everybody involved with making this happen, I applaud you. What an important, thoughtful move full of holiday spirit… and human spirit.
