Study: Massachusetts Loves Landlines Second Most
Massachusetts loves landlines. That’s what I learned today.
In a day and age where most people’s faces spend most of their time nose-deep in a cell phone, it’s kind of nostalgic and comforting to hear that Massachusetts still uses landlines more than any other state. It makes me want to ride my BMX bike over to my friends house and leave it on their front lawn with all the other bikes while we hang out and play Duck Hunt on their brand new Nintendo NES system.
A new study by Chamber of Commerce has a ton of info on our phone usage nowadays (back in present time lol). Among their tasty findings is that 7 in 10 US residents are now wireless-only phone users – they’re all celly, no landline. However, in the Northeast just over 4 in 10 still have a landline at home, much higher than the national average. We’re renaissance people!
The title of this article says Massachusetts Loves Landlines. So do we use them the most??
Short answer: no. But it’s really, reeeeaaalllllyyyy close. According to the study, New York is the landline capital of America. 52.4% of New York residents still have a landline. That’s the only state that outshines Massachusetts when it comes to landlines. In fact, we should call New York on their landline from our landline and Party Line it up until mom yells at us to get off the phone. Sorry, landline memories. In the Bay State (that’s Massachusetts BTW) 52.1% of residents have a landline at home. Maryland and New Jersey are the only other two states where over half of the state’s residents have landlines at home.
It’s been so long since I’ve heard a landline ring that I actually just had to look up the sound effect on YouTube. If you’re one of the less-than-half-of-Massachusetts-residents who don’t have a landline anymore either (like me), here you go! Hit play:
Thrilling, huh? You should add that to your playlist.
So Massachusetts loves landlines. Massachusetts also loves…. the most overrated tourist attraction in America! And I co-sign!!
