Carrie Underwood Stayed True To Herself For ‘Drinking Alone’
Carrie Underwood’s new single “Drinking Alone” is a song she co-wrote and as Carrie told Billboard, she made sure the character in the song didn’t waiver to far from what she herself might do.
She said, “It was important to me because we’re singing this [in the] first person. I didn’t want it to be like, ‘Oh, we’re going to get drunk and go home together,’ because that’s not something that I would do. If it is going to be like an extreme kind of character, I think I’d rather put it in third person, you know, or put it in a [context where] you’re speaking about somebody completely different, not use first person.”
Underwood performed the song on the CMA Awards last month. She told Billboard, “It was fun to perform live and I feel like that’s always something to keep in mind. It’s like, ‘OK, I’m going to be probably singing this on award shows or TV shows at this time. What feels like it would be a good next step?’”
