Burger King to Introduce Reusable Containers Next Year
Burger King is looking to be crowned “Most Environmentally Friendly” among fast food chains and will be taking steps to reduce waste in the new year.
Chain Tim Horton’s will be joining in the program as well.
Working with Terra Cycle’s Loop program, Burger King and Tim Horton’s have developed reusable containers that customers can return.
Starting in 2021, select Burger King restaurants in New York City, Portland, and Tokyo will be among the first to implement the model, with more cities expected to be added in the coming months.
“The Loop system gives us the confidence in a reusable solution that meets our high safety standards, while also offering convenience for our guests on the go,” said Matthew Banton, Head of Innovation and Sustainability, Burger King Global.
They would get the option to pay a deposit to receive their meal in reusable containers and cups. Upon returning the containers, customers would get their deposit back.
In case anyone is worried about the cleanliness of this project, all returned containers will be sanitized and cleaned before being used again.
