5 Spring Road Trip Destinations in New England
Everyone can use a getaway every once in a while, especially after this last year. But, you don’t always have to go somewhere far. Taking a road trip somewhere local can be just as exciting and memorable, especially if you are with the right people and go to the right places. So, we put together a list for you! While there are countless places to visit in New England, we narrowed it down to 5 of our favorite spring road trip destinations.
Chatham, Massachusetts
Driving to the small town of Chatham, Massachusetts in Cape Cod is the perfect road trip because not only is it super easy to get to, but there’s also plenty of things to do. One of the most popular attractions is the Chatham Lighthouse, which was built in 1877. It also has some great museums, including the popular Atwood Museum, which tells the history of the area. And of course, you can’t visit Chatham without walking on Chatham’s Main Street, where all the cute shops and restaurants are!
Newport, Rhode Island
Newport, Rhode Island is arguably perfect all year long, but spring is when it really starts to show off. There is even a day to celebrate the yellow daffodils blooming all over town called Daffodil Days Festival. Spring is also when outdoor dining and watering holes begin to open, which are a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in April or May. Some popular restaurants include Black Pearl, Diego’s, The Lobster Bar, and Smoke House. If you are looking to get some exercise in, Cliff Walk is a well-known walking trail that follows the water. If you’re looking to stay overnight, Castle Hill Inn is a very popular hotel that overlooks the harbor.
Kennebuckport, Maine
Kennebuckport is a gorgeous coastal town in Maine and one of the top vacation spots in the state. With the scenic views of Walker’s Point and Ocean Avenue, a road trip is the best way to experience this place. If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway, Spring is the best time to visit because it is less crowded before the summer rush hits. There are several art galleries to visit on a quiet afternoon, including Northlight Gallery and Rusty Fly Gallery and Gift. If you’re looking for some adventure, mid-April is a great time to go whale watching, which is a fun activity for the whole family to enjoy.
Burlington, Vermont
Burlington is the largest city in Vermont and has some of the most incredible views. This car ride is a little longer, so it may be worthwhile to make an entire weekend out of it. This is the best spot for someone who wants to spend a majority of their time outdoors, soaking in all the natural beauty it has to offer. Outdoor sports and activities, including hiking, sailing, and kayaking, are very popular here. There are also many breweries and bars to visit if you are looking for a fun night out with friends or family.
Kancamagus Highway, New Hampshire
The Kancamagus Highway is a road trip in itself! The scenic byway is 34 miles along and goes through the beautiful White Mountains in New Hampshire. But, it’s not just beautiful… there’s also plenty to do here. The towns of Lincoln and Conway have various hotel options, as well as many restaurants, stores, and activities. If you are looking to camp instead of stay in a hotel, there are also six campgrounds along the highway. If you are a hiker, then you are in luck because there are plenty of trails to choose from including Boulder Loop Trail, South Moat Mountain Trail, Champney Brook Trail to Mount Chocorua, and Lincoln Woods Trail.
