Police House Call Leads to Animal Rescue in Randolph, MA
According to a recent press release, 4 adult dogs and 20 puppies were rescued from an inhabitable home in Randolph, MA on Tuesday, August 17th.
The Randolph Police Department initially responded to a call reporting a resident threatening a worker conducting maintenance on a local home. Upon arrival, Randolph officers identified the resident as 28-year-old Urie Louissant.
The 28-year-old then allowed for the police to search his home, where the officers found two dozen dogs living in unfit conditions. According to the report, the living space was corrupted with animal waste and the dogs did not have proper food or water.
In light of this discovery, the Randolph Police joined forces with the Animal Rescue League of Boston to save the dogs from this cruelty.
After further investigation, the dogs all appeared to be Pitbull related. There was one male and three female adults dogs, thought to be between two to four years old, and puppies, who are thought to be between two to four months old.
With the help of Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Law Enforcement Department, the dogs were removed from the premise and taken to ARL’S Dedham Animal Care and Adoption Center.
The shelter’s medical team discovered that some dogs had umbilical hernias (which are schedule to be surgically removed before adoption) and heart murmurs. One 4-month year old male had a broken leg and will remain in the shelter’s care until healed.
According to the sources, the dogs are not currently available for adoption and have been temporarily placed in foster care. But, the dogs will eventually be released for adoption after they have recuperated from their former lifestyle. The ARL expects to be able to make an announcement within a few weeks that the dogs are ready to find their forever homes.
The 28-year-old Loussaint was charged with 24 counts of animal cruelty and is scheduled to be arraigned at Quincy District Court.
Randolph Police Commander Robert Emerson gave a statement after saying, “We are pleased to have been able to remove these animals from the poor condition they were living in. I would like to thank the ARL Law Enforcement and Field Services teams for their quick response and assistance at the scene, as well as the shelter medicine teams and foster care network for their dedication to caring for the dogs.”
