Brad Paisley Will ‘Let Freedom Sing’ In Nashville

Brad Paisley will headline “Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th,” presented by Dr. Pepper, the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. The Nashville downtown event will present one of the country’s largest July 4th fireworks shows.

The show will be synchronized to live music from the Nashville Symphony.

The concert and fireworks show is free and open to the public. This is the second time Brad will headline “Let Freedom Sing!” His last appearance was in 2021.

Paisley will be joined on the Jack Daniels Broadway Stage by a multi-genre lineup that includes The War And Treaty, singer-songwriter Langhorne Slim and rising country artist Tiera Kennedy, who will also perform the national anthem.

The event is partnering with The Store, a free-referral-based grocery store that aims to empower low-income individuals and families in the Nashville area, founded by Paisley and his wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley. The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp will donate $1 from the sale of each event t-shirt to The Store.

Paisley recently left Sony Music/Arista for Universal Music Group Nashville. The signing reunites Paisley with UMGN Chairman, CEO Mike Dungan, and President Cindy Mabe. Dungan was instrumental in signing Paisley to his first deal at Arista. Mabe served as Paisley’s marketing point person early in his career.

Brad said in a statement, “There were two people that should get the credit that you even know my name – Mike Dungan and Cindy Mabe. I ran into Mike at the fishing department at Walmart after having met with several labels, and he talked me into signing my first deal with Arista. They assigned this woman named Cindy Mabe to me – we graduated the same day at Belmont. I got to work with her on my first few albums, and now I get to work with her at UMG.”

He added, “Cindy’s a genius and terrific human being. She heard what I was up to with the new music, and she pointed me further into the direction I was headed. I’ve never had this kind of enthusiasm and empowerment. She said, ‘Make music that matters.’ It’s an amazing thing to work with Mike and Cindy again. It’s great to know they believe in this music as much as I do.”

  A solid and catchy tune, Brad said this about the origin of the song: "Every guy has been there. You're talking to a girl and realizing that it's going nowhere--but you still keep trying. I know I've been turned down enough to feel like I've really lived this song.”

The song tells of finding an undeveloped camera, which contains pictures of him and his previous lover - enjoying themselves in Cozumel, Mexico, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At first, he considers developing the film on the camera, but then, he changes his mind, asking himself, "Who needs pictures / With a memory like mine?"

  Brad said of creating “We Danced” with his co-writers “It started out with us focusing on a guy who owns a bar. And we began with the scenario that he's there working after the bar is closed, sweeping and putting the chairs up. Then this girl comes in who's forgotten her purse. We built the rest of the song around that concept.”

  Two of country music’s best guitar players teamed for this duet. In the album's (Play) liner notes, Paisley writes: "People have been asking for years when Keith and I would do something like this.   When writing the song, Brad thought that the bridge to Alabama's 1982 single "Mountain Music" would fit well with the song. Instead of sampling that song, he asked Alabama band members Randy Owen, Jeff Cook, and Teddy Gentry to join him in the studio and record a piece of it.

At the time, he had not recorded a studio version of the song and said that the CMA performance would be like a demo. Paisley said that he "almost [broke] down crying" while recording it.

  The song features a vocal from legendary actor Andy Griffith. Paisley has referred to "Waitin' on a Woman" as "one of the most important songs" that he's ever recorded. Because of the importance that he places on the song, he asked Andy Griffith to star in the music video, as he felt that Griffith's personality matched the personality of the older man in the song.

Paisley told Country Weekly magazine that he was inspired to write the song after hearing the announcement that Barack Obama, whom Paisley endorsed, would become President of the United States and realizing that the first president in his children's lives would be an African American.
