My Wife Is Worried About A Bear Attacking Our Children If We Go Outside
After there was a bear sighting in Whitman, Donnie’s wife refused to let their children go trick or treating for Halloween because she was terrified of a bear attacking them if they go outside. Is it rational to cancel Halloween over a bear sighting? Would you worry about a bear attacking your children?
Jonathan: All right, let’s go to Donnie in Abington. Hey, Donnie.
Donnie: Hey, how are you guys doing?
Jonathan: Doing fantastic. Just barely passing by. So, Donny, what’s the matter?
Donnie: I know this was a couple of days ago, but this is still bothering me, and I wanted to talk to you guys, and maybe we can get some answers or some feedback or something on this now. I live in Abington. I don’t know if you heard, but a couple of days ago in in Whitman, the next town over, there was a bear sighting. It made the local news.
Ayla: I bet it was cute.
Jonathan: Not too much happens in Whitman, but apparently when a bear gets loose, everybody needs to know. All right.
Donnie: Right. So my household, I wasn’t allowed to take my two girls out trick or treating because somebody maybe saw a bear an entire town over in Whitman.
Ayla: So the bear was in Whitman. I mean, the police did issue warnings to trick or treaters saying, please be very careful. There’s a bear on the loose.
Jonathan: Who was saying you couldn’t take your kids out trick or treating?
Donnie: My wife.
Jonathan: Your wife? Okay. So she was like, no, you can’t take the kids out. Especially I mean, they’re dressed up in a big honey bottle, and the other one is Winnie the Pooh or wearing raw meat like the Lady Gaga dress or a picnic basket.
Ayla: Yeah, that’s a problem.
Jonathan: So your girls were not dressed up like that. What was her reasoning for this? Just because there is a bear? You agree with her?
Ayla: I would understand why. I would want as a mama bear to protect my kid from a real bear.
Jonathan: I would rather protect my candy.
Donnie: Then if that’s the case, should we not drive to the drugstore? Should we not go down to the street to pick up some groceries? Are we on full red alert? Everybody stay at home because somebody maybe saw a bear.
Jonathan: I don’t know why, but when you’re describing these things, I’m imagining you go to the grocery store and the bear is the cashier for some reason.
Ayla: On Halloween, especially with all the candy around, I don’t know. The grocery store is even a little dicey because you have bags of food. Bears get hungry. They’re a predator. Maybe don’t go to CVS to pick up your prescription, but what if there is food in your bag? You do have to be careful at all times.
Jonathan: She is still freaking out about this because they haven’t caught the bear.
Donnie: But here’s the thing. I would have been with the girls. You know what I mean? It’s not like I’m just letting them go and saying send a postcard or anything like that. They would have been with me. There hasn’t been another case where the girls need to go outside. But, you know, Halloween is an outdoor function. Right?
Jonathan: But I’m just saying it’s been a couple of days since Halloween. Is she still freaking out about the bear attacking them? She letting the girls go out in the yard? Like, what? Is she still scared?
Donnie: I mean, she and I are still talking about it. Like I said, we’re not doing a whole lot outside other than Halloween a couple of days ago, you know?
Jonathan: So she doesn’t want you going outside at all.
Donnie: For the most part.
Jonathan: Because of the bear attacking.
Ayla: I just tell you really quickly that the police in Whitman and Hanson have nicknamed the Bear Pumpkin. I mean, they kind of make it a little cute.
Jonathan: It’s a black bear, too, right? It’s not even that big of a bear.
Ayla: It’s called pumpkin, though.
Jonathan: And this is what your wife is terrified of. Pumpkin, the bear.
Ayla: It’s so cute, Pumpkin.
Jonathan: He’s probably listening to this right now.
