Come And Get Your Love, Beloved Holiday Commercial Is Back
It’s almost here. Come and get your holiday love. The holiday season in New England comes jam packed with decorations, lots of food, hopefully presents, family, a little drama, hustle and bustle and memories of our childhood. Glimpses of Frosty, Rudolf, Charlie Brown and Santa are everywhere. Some put up the tree early, some later. Of course we can’t forget the music. Some of us make the jump into holiday music right away. Others, like to wait to after Thanksgiving. One thing is for sure: the holiday spirit connects us all sooner or later.
Holiday Commercials Are Back
Each holiday season, we get a new batch of heartfelt, sometimes hysterical holiday themed commercials. Have you seen the Capitol One commercial? It stars the one and only John Travolta recreating his iconic movie role in Saturday Night Fever as Tony Manero, complete with the opening walk to the Bee Gees, classic beat, Stayin’ Alive. But there is one hysterical catch: He’s Santa, doing the Tony Manero dance moves on the dance floor using his Capitol One card.
Come And Get Your Love
One of my FAVORITE holiday commercials is actually is a non-English speaking telecommunications commercial that features the 1970’s Redbone hit (SUNG in English) Come And Get Your Love. It opens with a young Dad dancing to a cassette of the hit with his toddler. The commercial advances through time, where the boy is now an annoyed, slightly embarrassed teen, and then a continually annoyed college kid as Dad breaks into his classic dance in a public restaurant as the song is played as his ring tone.
Wait For It
In the the final scene we now see Dad as an elderly man with his wife alone on Christmas Eve. All of the sudden, a wrapped present under the tree begins to ring. It’s a smart phone. Dad answers the call on a new smartphone, with a Facetime call. It’s now his grown son, with HIS toddler, recreating the same dance to Come And Get Your Love with Dad on the phone watching. The Dad gasps. He sees that his grown son remembered, with now three generations dancing to Come And Get My Love.
The commercial is not in English, but as you will see, love works in any language.
