Catch Of The Week: Sofia Lee Davis
Meet: Sofia Lee Davis from Hampton, NH
It all started in the kitchen. Dancing and swirling to the sounds of Motown while helping her mother scrub the floor. That is a vivid memory for singer/songwriter Sofia Lee Davis. And one she believes helped lead her to a life of music. Sofia says, “music is the method I feel most comfortable expressing myself. When I can’t find the right way to say something, I know there’s a song for that. And if there isn’t that’s when I write one.” Davis definitely has a way with words and the voice to deliver those words effectively. She’s a little bit Dolly, a little big Miranda, but completely Sofia… sweet, sensitive and sassy!

The Deets On Davis
- Instruments played: I used to play Suzuki method Violin and Piano. Right now I’m learning guitar
- How would you describe your sound: someone once told me that when you put your music out there, think of your songs as the roadmap. Introduce people to yourself. My sound map is a mixture of many things; triumphs, some painful moments, and a whole lot of hope. Of course it’s all sprinkled with some sass, my signature
- Who inspires you: Musically, I have always dreamed of working with Alison Krauss and a long list of people who are no longer with us. In my life I am inspired by my son, who unconditionally loves me and is my biggest fan. Also, my father, who I model my work ethic after. He immigrated to America at my age and built such a wonderful life for his family. I try to emulate him daily
- How did you get your name (if applicable): Sofia Lee Davis is a tribute to two people. Lee is for my son Grantly and Davis is for my uncle, Dale Davis, who passed away too young. He was an amazing guitar player and always supported my music
- All time favorite country songs: what a loaded question! Here are my most played- “Kentucky Rain” (Elvis Presley), “Heart like Mine”(Miranda Lambert), “Mamma Tried” (Merle Haggard), “Whiskey Lullaby” (Alison Krauss), “I Been To Georgia on a Fast Train” (Billy Joe Shaver)
- Favorite country concert: Sugarland at Verizon wireless amphitheater, my first concert when I was 12. The usher took me up front while Jennifer Nettles sang “Stay”. It’s a life lasting memory
- Favorite songs on Country 102.5: “Rich” by Marren Morris, and “One Number Away” by Luke Combs
- If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: I can’t imagine my life without music. I’ve been many things (AEMT, waitress) but above it all, I will always be a songwriter. Making music doesn’t mean I can’t do other things, I find that because music isn’t my full time job and I do other things, my songs are more relatable
- Most proud moment: becoming a mother and receiving my first nomination for a New England Music Award “Best Country Act”
- Fun Facts: I’ve had a passport since 9 months old -I’ve lived in Virginia, Georgia, and Texas -my favorite place to visit is Chattanooga, TN
