My Wife Wanted Me To Do More Chores Around The House So I Hired A Maid And Made Her Pay For It
Gabe works ten hours days to provide a nice life for his stay-at-home wife. But lately she has been on him to do chores around the house. So instead, Gabe hired a maid. But he wants the money for the maid to come out of her budget instead of his.
Here’s Gabe’s Call On Who Should Pay For The Maid
Jonathan: Today for panic button we have Gabe. Hey, Gabe.
Gabe: Yeah. Hey, how are you?
Jonathan: Fantastic. Gabe. So you’re having a bit of a budgeting crisis at your house. What’s going on?
Gabe: Yeah, a little bit, yes and no. It’s kind of a self-induced problem here. So I’m married. And I’m the one that works. I’m the breadwinner. My wife is a stay at home mom, which I’m actually cool with. You know, I prefer it almost.
Danielle: OK.
Gabe: I make fine money. You know we’re not hurting or nothing like that.
Jonathan: Yeah.
Gabe: But my wife lately has been getting on me about not doing enough around the house. Enough chores and stuff.
Danielle: OK.
Gabe: Here’s the thing. I’m working 10 hours a day. I’m gone all day. I’m. I’m busy there.
Jonathan: OK.
Gabe: Now she wants me to do the dishes once a week? And vacuum here and there, and Windex the windows.
Jonathan: I mean, did she specifically tell you what chores she wanted you to do.
Gabe: Yeah, those chores. That’s what she wants.
Jonathan: Those chores, OK.
Danielle: But she doesn’t do windows.
Jonathan: She doesn’t do windows. Does she anticoagulate the tip of the soap dispenser, or all that? Like how clean does she get it.
Gabe: Yeah. Yeah.
Jonathan: Does she clean the door.
Danielle: Just the peep hole in the door.?
Jonathan: How clean does she expect the place to be?
Gabe: Well, that that’s not even the major thing here. Yeah.
Danielle: OK
Gabe: I’ve got the her a budget. Everybody’s got a budget, right? We make good money but we’re smart with our money.
Jonathan: Sure.
Danielle: Sure. That’s smart. Yeah.
Jonathan: Good for you.
Gabe: So instead of me doing the work I started to take money out of her budget. To pay for the maid.
Danielle: Shouldn’t that come out of yours, though? If it’s your maid?
Jonathan: Yeah, it’s your maid.
Danielle: Like I understand it not being an effective use of your time and you’re working, But if those are your duties, why is the maid coming out of her half?
Gabe: Well, I mean it’s her job.
Jonathan: Because he doesn’t want to do the chores. And he’s saying this. You want me to do chores? You don’t want to do the chores. So instead I’m gonna hire a maid. Because this is more for you than it is for me.
Danielle: Do those particular chores? Sorry. So if she has to get a babysitter, does it come out of his half? I. It just seems a little unfair.
Jonathan: That’s a good question. If you get a babysitter, does that come out of where? Where does the money for that come from?
Gabe: It would depend on the situation I guess.
Danielle: OK. OK. Interesting. I guess you guys don’t get a babysitter to often.
Jonathan: I don’t really have anything to say about this that wouldn’t be incredibly incriminating. So I’m just gonna throw out to the audience. Gabe’s problem is that his wife expects him to do chores around the house, and he’s like, I work 10 hours a day.
Gabe: Exactly
Jonathan: I don’t have time to do chores, and I’m exhausted. So instead, I’m going to take money out of her budget to pay for the maid. Is that fair? Is that OK? Gabe. Thank you so much.
Danielle: Yeah.
Gabe: Yeah. Thank you.
