Happy Birthday Dierks Bentley! Listen To A Few Favorites
Today, one of country music’s long time favorites has turned 44 years old.Since 2003 Frederick Dierks Bentley has been churning out the hits, from his first, “What Was I Thinking,” to his recent,”Living.” nine studio albums, one live album, one compilation album, and 29 singles. This 11 time Grammy Nominated singer/songwriter continues to be overlooked by the industry, but has produced 16 number 1 hits!
This past summer, Dierks told me he wants to be Boston’s 2nd favorite son, next to his good friend Kenny Chesney, because he loves playing here so much! He also loves playing hockey, and you know we love our hockey here in Boston! In fact, Dierks attended the University of Vermont for a yet, where he lived in the same house as former Bruins’ goalie, Tim Thomas!
More fun facts:
- Dierks is a self-taught musician. He taught himself guitar at around 13 years old.
- He is wicked smaaht! After attendedĀ Culver AcademiesĀ and graduated fromĀ The Lawrenceville School, both very prestigious, elite college preparatory academies. After his short stint at UVM, he graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1997.
- Bentley married his high school sweetheart, Cassidy, in 2005. (They actually eloped in Mexico)
-
He has 3 kids. 2 daughters, Evie and Jordan, and one son, Knox (featured in his video for “Living”)
Now, let’s celebrate with some favorite Dierks Bentley songs!
- “What Was I Thinkin“-There’s nothing like your first! Especially went it goes to #1 on the country charts, and even makes it onto the all-genre (pop) chart! That happened in 2003 with “What Was I Thinking”
2. “I Hold On”- Ten years after his first, Dierks released this personal gem that references the truck and guitar he still uses today. In fact, the video features his 1994 CHevy SIlverado that he and his late father drove to Nashville.
3. “Woman Amen”- from his brilliant, 2018 album, The Mountain, Dierks outdoes himself in this deeply personal song, and somewhat of an ode to his wife, Cassidy, who ironically said it wasn’t her favorite on the album. Maybe it was too much of a spotlight for here. It marked a return to the more bluegrassy tinged side of Dierks. A welcome return.
4. “Free And Easy”- from 2007 and his album, “Long Trip Alone,” road trip favorite became Dierks’ 5th #1!
Flash back to last summer and Dierks at the Xfinity Center!
