Carrie Underwood Keeps ‘Heart And Familiarity’ On Christmas Album
Carrie Underwood’s Christmas album My Gift has been keeping the mother of two very busy this holiday season as she also filmed a Christmas special for HBO MAX which is now streaming.
Carrie tells us that she’s always loved Christmas songs and made sure some of her favorite traditional songs were on the new album. She said, “My favorite ones are when somebody just does like a beautiful production of ‘O Holy Night’ or ‘O Come All Ye Faithful,’ whatever it is when it’s just simple and beautiful, that’s what resonates with me.”
She adds, “I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here. I love these songs the way they are. There’s a reason that they’ve stood the test of time and people still sing them today and that’s because they’re great the way they are. So we wanted to make it sound like it could be recorded in any time, including today, but wanted to keep that heart and that familiarity in that traditional way.”
For her TV special, Underwood says it felt good to dress up once again in this crazy year of 2020, “I feel like I’ve been in my sweatpants all year, so I was excited. Usually for me, like fittings are like you go and you try out a bunch of stuff and it’s usually really uncomfortable. But this was really special because I was like ‘Yeah, I get to do this.’ Absence, I guess, made the heart grow more fashionable.”
