Kelly Clarkson Has Written A Lot of Songs During Divorce Process
Kelly Clarkson clearly has a lot that she needs to express in her music: she has written a tremendous number of songs in the midst of her split from estranged husband Brandon Blackstock.
“I have written like 60 songs; it is an insane amount of getting it out. I think that’s a blessing in itself. Anytime you go through some life, it’s such an awesome thing to have that outlet, regardless of whether people hear it or not,” Clarkson told Entertainment Tonight yesterday.
38-year-old Clarkson reflected on what she’s willing to share to the public, given her music’s personal nature, saying “I hate that I had to go through ‘Because of You’ or ‘Piece by Piece’ [moments]… They’re just difficult decisions to put those out because they’re so personal. “
Clarkson shared that fellow Voice coach John Legend’s Bigger Love album has helped her healing process amid her divorce.
The “Stronger” singer filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The two were married for nearly seven years, sharing two young children together, 6-year-old daughter River Rose, and 4-year-old son Remington Alexander.
In an earlier interview with ET, Clarkson revealed how the divorce affects her children saying, “There’s a lot of hearts involved here… but at some point I’m a mama bear more than I am a person in the public eye. So, I care one hundred percent more about my children than I do anything else on this planet… I have to think, ‘Hmmm, like, what I say has a domino effect in other people’s lives.'”
She elaborated on how she tries to navigate the split in the public eye, adding: “I’ve been through two divorces in my family… We didn’t have social media around when that happened. No one is at fault for what happened. Like I said, nothing’s wrong with anybody, it’s just…it happens, and that’s why there’s nothing to hide about it in that sense. You know, it’s just, divorce is a really s—– thing.”
