Full In-Person Learning Delay Granted to Many Mass. Schools
Massachusetts elementary schools (K-5) must return to the classroom by April 5th. However, dozens of schools and districts have now received waivers from the state allowing them to delay the return full in-person learning.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has received 77 requests for waivers to return full-time, according to WBZ-TV. So far, sixty-four of those have been approved, nine have been denied, and four are still in review. Many of these requests were due to the fact that Grade 5 is considered middle school, not elementary school, in certain districts, which is not required to be back full-time until April 28th. As for the other approvals, those were requested because they have been fully remote for the entire school year thus far.
