Luke Combs Now Wears A Wristband for A Fallen Myrtle Beach Officer
Luke Combs is back to playing shows and spending time with fans and over the weekend he came face to face with a Coastal Carolina police dispatcher at Carolina Country Music Festival.
The dispatcher, Ryan Klinger, took the opportunity to honor fallen Myrtle Beach PFC Jacob Hancher.
Patrolman Jacob Hancher was killed in a shooting in October when he responded to a domestic violence call.
Klinger said he somehow got Combs’ attention while he was signing autographs and shared Hancher’s story.
Klinger told WPED, Channel 15 News, “There were people all over the place, people throwing hats at him trying to get autographs and all and he just had straight tunnel vision because he just wanted to hear everything I was saying and I just had the utmost respect for him wanting to talk about it and putting that band on and wanting to take a picture with me with him wearing it.”
Klinger said it was a brief interaction between the two of them, but enough time for him to tell Combs about Hancher being a hero. He shared how Hancher started young as a community service officer with Myrtle Beach police and was a volunteer firefighter. He told him about his personality and the kind person Hancher was. Klinger said he didn’t know Hancher personally but has a lot of mutual friends, as he works in the same line of duty.
Klinger said from what he knows, Hancher was a big Luke Combs fan, so he is proud to share Hancher’s legacy with the musician. Klinger also said Combs was thankful for the wristband and won’t take it off.
