Malden to Open Its First Starbucks This Fall
Starbucks lovers… we’ve got good news for you! Malden is getting ready to open its first ever Starbucks this upcoming fall.
Malden Mayor Gary Christenson announced on Monday that a Starbucks is coming to Malden Center on the corner of Exchange and Commercial streets. It is scheduled to open this fall, definitely by Thanksgiving, if not October.
“We’ve always been a Dunkin’ Donuts town,” Kevin Duffy, Malden’s head of strategy and business development, told Boston.com.
Duffy also told Boston.com that the Starbucks is taking the “key corner” of a recently renovated four-story building, right across from the Malden Center MBTA station. The building also includes new restaurants and future lab space. He stated that Malden’s residential neighborhoods “are still the classical neighborhoods that do have the mom-and-pop coffee shops,” but, putting a Starbucks there shows that they have taken note of the city’s transit-oriented development strategy around the denser downtown area.
