Arrest Made At Taylor Swift’s New England Home
Taylor Swift’s week ended in Kansas City, where she was performing three shows at Arrowhead Stadium. However, earlier in the week, an arrest was made outside her home here in New England. A woman was charged with trespassing on Swift’s property in Rhode Island.
According to the Providence Journal, the woman who was arrested was previously warned against trespassing at Swift’s beachfront mansion in Westerly, Rhode Island.
The Providence Journal also detailed that the woman was 54 years old. Upon the police’s arrival, “they found the woman outside the front gates,” the report states. The woman was eventually released on $1,000 bail. Next, she will face a court arraignment this Friday, July 14.
The Rhode Island property has numerous “No Trespassing” signs posted, but over the years, that has not prevented unwanted guests from roaming Swift’s grounds. Since Swift bought the mansion in 2013, at least four arrests have been made for trespassers here.
The Last Great American Dynasty
If you are wondering if there’s a song about this, the answer is yes. Well, kind of. Swift’s eighth studio record Folklore, released in 2020, has ties to Rhode Island. The opening lyrics to “The Last Great American Dynasty” are, “Rebekah rode up on the afternoon train/It was sunny./Her saltbox house on the coast.” According to a story from the Providence Journal in May, the name Rebekah refers to the mansion’s previous owner in Westerly.
“Prior to Swift, the house was owned by Rebekah Harkness, a divorcée who famously married into the Standard Oil fortune in 1947,” they say. Swift’s song allegedly references the mystical behavior of Harkness, stating, “There goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen. She had a marvelous time ruining everything”
The next line starts with, “Rebekah gave up on the Rhode Island set, forever.” Perhaps with another person being arrested for trespassing Swift’s home in Rhode Island, she may consider doing the same.
Swift has been playing “The Last Great American Dynasty” live each night during the Eras tour. It’s performed during the Folklore portion of the set, typically about the 26th song in the set. Swift’s next tour stop is Denver this weekend.
