Trillions of Cicadas Are Coming And You Need To Get Ready
Yup, we’re in for some serious noise this spring and summer because the ‘Cicada-geddon’ is about to hit.
So, every 13 years, one big batch of the bugs decides it’s time to make their grand entrance. And every 17 years, another group joins the party.
Well, this year, they’ve synced up their schedules like never before, creating a buzz that hasn’t been heard since way back in 1803 – back when Thomas Jefferson was calling the shots.
“This spring, an unusual cicada double dose is about to invade a couple parts of the United States in what University of Connecticut cicada expert John Cooley called “cicada-geddon.” ” the Associated Press reported.
“If you’re fascinated by the upcoming solar eclipse, the cicadas are weirder and bigger,” Georgia Tech biophysicist Saad Bhamla, told the AP. “We’ve got trillions of these amazing living organisms come out of the Earth, climb up on trees and it’s just a unique experience, a sight to behold. It’s like an entire alien species living underneath our feet and then some prime number years they come out to say hello.”
Usually, these noisy bugs start making their appearance late April, and they don’t stop until early June. That’s a whole lot of time for them to sing their songs, mate, and annoy the heck out of some folks.
Are you pumped for the cicada invasion?
Or do they creep you out? Some people find them fascinating – a true sign of nature waking up after a long winter’s nap. Others? Well, let’s just say they’re not exactly fans of the incessant buzzing and creepy crawly vibe.
Whether you’re excited to witness this once-in-a-blue-moon phenomenon or you’re already stocking up on earplugs, one thing’s for sure: they are are coming, and they’re bringing the noise.
So, get ready to embrace the buzz or hunker down until their noisy party comes to an end.
