A Community Comes Together To Support Mellow The Dog On His Last Walk
Mellow the dog has been living in Dupont, Pennsylvania since September of 2019 with his owner Kevin. Over the past few months, Mellow has been slowing down significantly because he was diagnosed with lymphoma and was given a life expectancy of June. Mellow would walk with his owner Kevin twice a day, daily and rain, snow or shine. Since getting Mellow’s diagnosis, Kevin decided that because of his slow movement and gradual decline, he would treat him to one final walk. And in this final walk, Kevin wanted the neighborhood to get involved so they could say goodbye to Mellow.
How did Kevin go about executing this? He put a letter in all of his neighbors’ mailboxes letting them know the situation and when the final walk would be with a map of the walk route. According to the letter: “My name is Mellow, and I have been living in Dupont since September 2019 with my owner Kevin. You may have noticed us walking in the neighborhood twice a day, every day — rain, snow, or shine. Some neighbors may have pet me or given me treats before, while others I may only know through their own dogs that say hello to me as we pass by. Regardless of how well we know each other, you have made my life so much richer than any rescue dog could have hoped for. I am grateful to have such caring neighbors and live in a community that looks out for one another so well.”

To all the residents of Dupont, Pennsylvania you should pat each other on the back, for taking the time to say goodbye to Mellow.

It went on to read that Mellow’s last walk would be June 3 from 7-8pm. And the neighborhood SHOWED UP in a big way! At least 20 people showed up on each corner of the neighborhood during the walk and made it an amazing and memorable day for Mellow and Kevin. Many commented on how happy they were to see Mellow one last time and how grateful they were that Mellow was a part of their community. Mellow will surely be missed.
