Cody Johnson Thanks Luke Combs For ‘Big Moment’
Cody Johnson has been playing big venues in Texas for a while now, but his star just recently began to rise all over the world, and he noticed that when he traveled to play shows in Australia and New Zealand in late summer of 2023.
Cody chatted with Pop Culture before he rang in the New Year in Nashville on CBS’s New Year’s Eve special in the Music City. He told the publication what he thought his big moment was in 2023, “A big moment was getting to go to Australia and New Zealand with Luke Combs to open up.”
He added, “And the biggest moment of that is while we were there, not only did we figure out that people all over the world, on a completely different continent — I could have gotten to Asia or Antarctica quicker than America — people knew every word to every song.”
Johnson said that the crowd was actually “mad” because he didn’t play certain songs that were songs he wrote 10 or 12 years ago when he had a publishing company or a publishing deal in Nashville. He noted, “That was a big eye-opener.”
Cody thanked Luke Combs for taking him to Australia to play saying that Combs has “done a lot for me.”

Johnson’s love song for his wife, “The Painter,” is moving up the country charts this week. Cody did not write the song, but he relates to it so well. In a recent interview, he told us about the sweet song, “She does paint my world. Brandi and I have been together for fifteen years. Everybody thinks when they’re young and they get married it’s all gonna be roses and rainbows and it is not. There’s a lot of lows and a lot of downs along with the highs.”
Johnson added, “But when you look back on it, you feel like all of that was part of the beautiful part. All the bad goes along with the good to make it this beautiful thing we have called life together.”
He concluded, “If that’s not painting a picture, I don’t know what is.”
