Listen: Miranda Lambert’s ‘Geraldene’ Namedrops Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’
Miranda Lambert has released a new song from her upcoming album The Marfa Tapes called “Geraldine” and it name checks another famous song: Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”
It’s actually a lot like Parton’s famous song as Miranda is threatened by another woman just like Dolly was in 1974’s “Jolene.” Lambert sings, “You’re trailer-park pretty, but you’re never gonna be Jolene.”
The chorus sings, “Geraldene, Geraldene / Why you gotta be so mean? / Don’t make me cause a scene now, Geraldene / Geraldene, Geraldene / You got ’em all on their knees / But you can’t take a man from me, Geraldene.”
At the end of the song, Lambert chats with her collaborators Jack Ingram and Jon Randall saying “That was fun.”
