Catch Of The Week: Chris Ruediger
Meet: Chris Ruediger from Concord, MA
Smart, sensitive and soulful…that’s my impression of Chris Ruediger’s music. Chris says his approach to modern country takes elements of pop, rock and folk and blends them with country. “Most people think I sound similar to Brett Young or Michael Ray, with a twist,” according to Ruediger. But he feels it’s important to take all your influences and create your own sound. Growing up there were piano lessons starting at age 5, musical theater in school, which helped him find his voice, and by age 12 Chris was into the guitar. He learned how to play chords watching YouTube videos. His father encouraged him to to try local open mic nights. “It was nerve-racking at first, but it was the start of my career and gave me confidence to perform live,” said Chris. He now plays about 80 shows a year between New England and Nashville, so it’s obviously paid off. Music isn’t Ruediger’s only plan. The 19 year old is currently studying economics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

- Biggest influences: Ed Sheeran. I have loved watching him. His solo performances, looping guitar and vocals, inspire me to do the same. I also have enjoyed watching young country artists, such as Brett Young, Devin Dawson, Luke Combs, Chase Rice and Michael Ray. These guys are in a lane very similar to mine, and finding great success
