Catch Of The Week: Lyssa Coulter
Meet: Lyssa Coulter from Westboro, MA
Lyssa Coulter always had a dream of performing in front of a big audience, for as long as she can remember. It started in the back of the car, and then in front of her parents and their friends, and anywhere she could find an audience. Even though she dreamed it, she never really thought it would become a reality, until now…as Lyssa prepares to move to Nashville and make the commitment to her craft, her calling, her dreams.
After high school, Coulter moved from Medway to Westboro, where doors began to open. She started working with a vocal coach who not only coached her, but acted as her booking agent, getting Lyssa 15 minute slot gigs around the area. From there, Lyssa says, “I knew it was going to be on the path I chose as a career and I just haven’t stopped since.”
This singer/songwriter has grown by leaps and bounds since last we met. She has gained a confidence, learned to trust in her writing, and let her vocals soar. Her path here in New England has now led her straight to Nashville.

Coulter Comments
- How would you describe your sound: I always say that my sound is country pop. I think my music is a cross between Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift
- Instruments played: guitar and currently learning piano
- Who inspires you: Kelsea Ballerini was my inspiration to join the country industry world. She will continue to be a huge inspiration of mine. One of my biggest inspirations is Taylor Swift. Her writing, her attitude, her confidence, the product she puts out not just on the radio but in person continues to amaze me. I am also inspired by a lot of my talented friends. Songwriting is a newer concept to me. I just started within the past year or so, and all of my friends that songwrite with me also inspire and amaze me with the lyrics and melodies they create. I’d say most of my inspiration though, comes from the people who believe in me, take chances on me, push me to do things I never thought I’d do and take chances I never thought I’d take whether it be family, friends, fans, my band, even booking agents, venue managers, radio personalities, industry professionals, etc.

- If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: My original plan was to be a middle school english teacher so I’d be a Junior in college working towards a teaching degree.
- Day Job (if applicable): Music is what I consider my “full time job” but I have recently launched an artist development company with Jonathan Loya, called Cloud 9. I feel that I learned about this industry WAY too late in life and I want to show musicians that they can make their dreams in the music industry come true.
- Most proud moment: Accepting my 2018 New England Music Award for New Act of the Year
- Craziest thing that ever happened in your music career: Winning the NEMA Award for New Act of the year. It’s just one of those moments that will never quite wrap around my head. Or the time I opened up for the Marshall Tucker Band. Being on a stage that big is an incredible feeling.
- Other things you like to do: I love coloring, driving around with friends, and eating, along with the occasional Netflix binge.
- Frivolous fun facts: My favorite vacation spot is Disney World, my favorite color is purple and I love comedies. I could watch Netflix stand-up comedy specials all day!
