Fire Officials: Don’t Leave Hand Sanitizer In Your Car This Summer
As we unofficially start summer this Memorial Day Weekend, there’s a dire warning coming from fire officials about those bottles of hand sanitizer you may have in your car: take them out!
The Western Lakes Fire District in Wisconsin says all it takes is some warm weather, sunlight, and a plastic bottle filled with sanitizer to spell disaster for your car.
“By its nature, most hand sanitizer is alcohol-based and therefore flammable,” the fire district posted on their Facebook page. “Keeping it in your car during hot weather, exposing it to sun causing magnification of light through the bottle,
—-and particularly being next to open flame while smoking in vehicles or grilling while enjoying this weekend—-can lead to disaster.”
