While air travel has dropped sharply during the pandemic, apparently more people are bringing a gun to the airport.

TSA says that the number of guns found at airport security checkpoints last month was triple the usual number – despite air travel being down by 75%.

In total, 300 guns were discovered in carry-on baggage in the month of July – including 27 incidents at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport.

“Travelers must understand that firearms are prohibited items at airports and in the passenger cabins of aircraft,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a statement.

“As hard as we are working to mitigate other risks at this time, no one should be introducing new ones.”
