1st place: The Seafood Shanty – Buzzards Bay, MA
The Seafood Shanty is now entering its 30th season. Prior to becoming The Seafood Shanty, it was a seasonal clam shack established in the late 1950s. In the spring of 1992 the current owners, The Economides Family, opened this historic clam shack as The Seafood Shanty in the existing building. Family-owned & operated, the Economides Family takes pride in serving only the finest Native New England Seafood. All of their fried foods are cooked in 100% Cholesterol Free and 100 % Trans Fat-Free Vegetable Oil. Their fresh Fish & Clams are delivered daily. The Shanty features hand-cut onion rings, homemade clam chowder, homemade tartar sauce, and homemade coleslaw, a special family recipe, which has all been essential to their success!
2nd place: Clam Box of Ipswich – Ipswich, MA
The one-of-a-kind Clam Box of Ipswich restaurant was built in 1935 by Dick Greenleaf. This roadside restaurant is located about 30 miles north of Boston in the historic beach town of Ipswich. Generations of New England families have been coming over to enjoy the finest fried seafood for more than 85 years. The Clam Box of Ipswich has been featured in many magazines and TV shows like Yankee Magazine, Phantom Gourmet, US Airways, The Food Network, and WCVB Channel 5’s Chronicle. They may not have invented fried clams, but they perfected them!
