My Baby Eating Has Gone Viral And Now People Want To Call CPS On ME?
I can’t believe that this video of my baby eating homemade puree has gone viral and more so, that people want MY head on a platter!
Every parent wants the best for their child, and when it comes to their diet, homemade baby food often tops the list. It offers the assurance of quality ingredients and control over what goes into their tiny tummies. As a devoted mother, I decided to embark on the journey of creating a homemade puree for my baby, Barrett.
Things didn’t go quite as planned. “I got this! I am crushing the Mom game,” quickly turned into, “Whoops, am I doing this right?”
The Night I Spent Three Hours In The Kitchen
Armed with sweet potatoes and broccoli, I devoted three hours of my time and effort to creating a nutritious puree for my baby. I carefully steamed the vegetables. First, I steamed the sweet potatoes and then I did the same to the broccoli. The aroma wafting through the kitchen was promising, and my excitement grew as I imagined my little one loving his Momma’s cookin’!
With the perfectly steamed vegetables ready, I set out to blend them into a smooth, creamy puree. As the blender whirred, I envisioned the joy on Barrett’s face. Seeing the vibrant orange and green food combination filled me with pride!
The Unanticipated Response of My Baby Eating My Cooking
The moment of truth arrived when I presented the homemade puree to Barrett. As my little one encountered the unfamiliar texture, he expressed his disapproval by spitting out the food. It was not the response I was hoping for, and feelings of disappointment and self-doubt quickly took hold. I tried again. Maybe it was just the first bite. It was an unfamiliar taste for such a young 5.5 month old boy.
Feeling that I was not alone in my struggle, I decided to share the video of my baby’s reaction on my Facebook page. I thought it would be an opportunity to connect with other parents who might have faced similar challenges. However, the unexpected happened. The video went viral! And instead of getting a lot of, “I’ve been there Momma!” I got hate messages from people all over the world saying I was a horrible parent. One person even wanted to call Child Protective Services on me for feeding my son homemade puree!

Self-Doubt and Reflection After Posting That Video
In the wake of the video’s viral success, I found myself questioning my parenting abilities. Thoughts of being a “bad mother” weighed heavily on my heart. Parenting is a continuous learning process, and mistakes can become valuable opportunities for growth. Not all babies will instantly embrace new textures or flavors. I learned that it may take several attempts for them to develop a taste for certain foods.

Ayla posted a video feeding a homemade puree to her baby, who promptly puked it back up. Reaction from the mom community was harsh. Is she a bad parent for continuing to feed him something he clearly did not like?https://t.co/Gv4aWhOsrF

Since that video was posted back in February, our baby has grown to LOVE broccoli. In fact he eats it, and almost every other solid food, every day. We are proud of the little eater he’s becoming! I just wish other people could see that.
