Are Fast Food Restaurants Trying To Cool Off The “No Ice” Orders?
They need to chill!
One of the earliest HACKS people used to talk about was ordering a drink from a fast food restaurant with NO ICE. You get MORE drink in the cup, and you can always add ice yourself if you want it to be chilled. To be totally honest, I do this all of the time for a couple of reasons.
- You tend to get more for your buck. When I order a cold brew (they are very expensive!) I get it black with no ice and want it filled to the brim. Usually it’s not a problem but there are times when I have to ask the attendant to “top it off”, and they will typically do it without questions or comments (until I drive away)
- The other reason, is simply because they have a tendency to add too much ice! We are all too aware of how little drink you get when it’s poured over a cup full of ice.
Is it a “loophole”?
This idea has been around so long that it’s common knowledge, but there’s talk on social media that some places are closing this loophole . . . and are not filling cups to the top if you ask for no ice.
There’s a TikTok that’s going viral, where a woman orders a lemonade from Wendy’s with no ice . . . and they only filled it three-fourths full.
The reactions are mixed. Some people think it’s CHEAP for places NOT to fill cups . . . especially if they offer free refills if you eat-in.
I don’t want to pay for a glass of ice
But others say you’re paying for the DRINK, not the ice, so you should get the same amount whether you want it iced or not. And some workers say that there are cases when the amounts are automated by machines.
In any event, it doesn’t sound like this is a new policy at Wendy’s. They haven’t commented, but random commenters say THEIR location is still filling cups.
Cracking the no ice hack?
Even if they did start cracking down, they wouldn’t be the first. Some establishments already have cups with fill-lines for ice and no-ice . . . and others will charge a little more if you want a full cup without ice.
