The Lucky Sox?
In 2004 we had the “Idiots.” In 2013 it was hairy… but the bearded boys brought it home. Some have called this year’s Red Sox club lucky. If you listen to the critics you hear the word “lucky” being thrown around a lot. Seriously. You don’t win 108 regular season games and plow through the Yankees and Houston in the post season with luck. I’d like to call this year’s Sox “the worker Bs” (B for Boston). Sure they are talented, but if you make it to MLB you’ve got to have talent. These guys just grind it out, work hard and do anything they can to get the job done. People say Alex Cora has the Midas touch. Please, give credit where credit is due, Cora is smart. That’s it. Hard work and smarts will take you far. Haven’t we been told that forever? Let’s include the ability to remain calm in tense situations. Oh, and preparedness. Yes, let’s not forget preparedness. One of my all time favorite quotes is: “Luck is what happens when preparedness meets opportunity.” The Red Sox have had many opportunities, it’s a long season. They have been prepared for each game. So, on that note and ahead of the next game in this epic World Series, I share another famous quote, this one from Edward R. Murrow: “Good night and good luck!”
