Jimmy Fallon issued an apology via Twitter today after a Saturday Night Live skit from 2000 in which he plays Chris Rock in blackface began to trend.
In the tweet, Fallon wrote, “In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this. I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable.”
Fallon and the sketch have been trending for most of the day on Twitter and has been a part of an ongoing debate on “cancel culture” and holding entertainers accountable for past performances.
