Country Music Pays Tribute To The Rolling Stones
In celebration of The Rolling Stones’ 60th anniversary, some of country’s biggest stars, including Brothers Osborne, Lainey Wilson, and Eric Church, have come together for Stoned Cold Country. The tribute album will be released in 2023 on BMG.
Throughout the record, the participating artists – Jimmie Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, Steve Earle, Elle King, Marcus King, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Elvie Shane, Koe Wetzel, The War And Treaty, Lainey Wilson & Zac Brown Band – will cover Rolling Stones classics.
The first taste of Stoned Cold Country arrived with the release of Brothers Osborne & The War And Treaty’s soulful rendition of “It’s Only Rock’ N’ Roll (But I Like It),” which was recently released. The two duos also performed the song live at the CMA Awards on November 8th to a standing ovation from the crowd.
Record prouder Robert Deaton said of the album he produced, “This album is country music’s thank you to the Rolling Stones for 60 years of inspiration and providing the soundtrack of our lives. While recording the record, I was reminded that this is a showcase and spotlight on the best we have to offer as a genre.” He added, “From our artists to all of the musicians that played on the record, we boldly state that Country Music is second to none when it comes to artists of integrity and creativity.”

GALLERY: The 56th CMA Awards' Biggest Moments
Last night’s 56th Annual CMA Awards had many incredible highlights. They paid tribute to Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson, and the late Jerry Lee Lewis and even mentioned Country Music Hall of Famer’s Alabama’s Jeff Cook, who passed away on Monday (11/7).
This year’s show featured highlights including:
- Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Reba McEntire paid tribute to Loretta Lynn in song.
- Lainey Wilson and Hardy’s chilling performance of their duet “Wait In The Truck.”
- Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Lainey Wilson and Jon Pardi paid tribute to Alan Jackson, who won the night’s Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Jackson even performed himself and gave a long and emotional speech in accepting the honor.
- Another fantastic performance from Male Vocalist winner Chris Stapleton who was joined by fellow Kentucky native Patty Loveless to honor their home state with “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive.”
- Lainey Wilson got quite emotional and speechless after winning the Female Vocalist Award on her first time nominated.
- Jordan Davis won his first CMA Award in the Song of The Year category for his duet with Luke Bryan, “Buy Dirt.” The award was extra special because Jordan won the honor with his brother, who co-wrote the song.
- Jo Dee Messina joined Cole Swindell to sing his current chart-topper “She Had Me at Heads Carolina,” a song based on Messina’s 1996 hit “Head Carline, Tails California.”
- Carly Pearce paid tribute to Loretta Lynn with her song “Dear Miss Loretta,” with Ricky Skaggs playing guitar beside her.
- Elle King paid tribute to the late Jerry Lee Lewis with “Great Balls Of Fire,” backed by rock band the Black Keys. Just like Jerry Lee used to do: the piano was set on fire at the end of the song.
- Luke Combs got teary-eyed accepting his second consecutive Entertainer of the Year award, thanking his wife and fans.
Nancy Brooks has been working in the country music industry for almost 30 years. She has interviewed pretty much any country star you can think of. In the late 1990s, she started working with Dolly Parton. And yes, Nancy reports that Parton is as sweet as you would think. She loves her life in country music and has been backstage at every CMA Awards show since the late 1990s.
Many of her stories are from her one-on-one interviews. She was there at the beginning of the incredible careers of many music superstars today, including Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, and Blake Shelton, and has interviewed them multiple times throughout the years.
