Garth Brooks Admits Artificial Intelligence Scares Him ‘To Death’
Garth Brooks is not sure what to think about the new AI technology that can write a full song in less than 60 seconds with just a few words to prompt it. We asked him today (6/15) his thoughts on the new technology.
Garth told us, “I think what’s coming, the hopeful in me… I’m not sure what the ‘hopeful’ is unless AI can create Garth Brooks at a certain age that he could tour and hologram forever, kind of thing.” He added, “I would go in a heartbeat to go see the Fab Four all together again in a stadium, right? It’d be fun.”
He continued, “The scary part of it scares me to death. But I don’t want to be a gloom-and-doom guy, but it’s like all technology; we need to be able to regulate it before we unleash it.”
Would he record a song that was written by AI? “I don’t know about that; you’re always open to any songs. You don’t care who the writer is as long as it’s not somebody that tried to destroy the world. I get it.”
Doing a recent project, Brooks learned what AI could do, and it captured his voice rather perfectly. He told us, “My thing with AI, they had liners they wanted me to do, so they went through AI to do it, and they showed it to me, and I’m going, ‘That’s me, I don’t remember doing these liners, but that’s me.’ I’m listening to me. It even had a little laugh. I’m like going, ‘Oh s—.”
For now, Garth is performing in the flesh. He recently said that it’s hard to describe what his shows in Las Vegas are like, but they are all distinct. He said, “It’s like every week in that room just gets…more fun, but it’s a different kind of fun! It’s been a blast. [And yet] it’s just starting. And I gotta tell ya – if it gets bigger than this, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to survive it.” What’s more, Brooks says the residency is living up to its name and his original vision for it – each performance has been truly unique, with no night even coming close to mirroring another. “We haven’t done the same show.”
“Garth Brooks/Plus ONE” will continue this year.
