First Snow Of The Season Has Come And Gone: Which Massachusetts Towns Saw The Most Snow?
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. At least it did for a minute. Yesterday’s sunrise brought with it the winter’s first snow. But wait, it’s not even officially winter yet. We are off and running, early this year. The first snow of the season has come and gone. Which Massachusetts towns saw the most snow? You are about to find out.
Pay no attention to this cover photo. And make no mistake, this was not a significant snow fall. However, the amount of inches did catch many of us on the South Shore by surprise. The Patch reported the ocean-effect snow “caused the Bourne Bridge to be closed for a time.” So, it was definitely an issue for commuters Wednesday morning.
Slick roads created problems for drivers heading into work. And since it’s been so long since we last saw snow around here, some commuters seemed to have forgotten how to deal with it. I believe the last time we saw any snow around here was in February of last year. In fact, 2022 into early ’23, there was significantly lower snow totals for Massachusetts.
Back to Wednesday and our first snow of the season. Which Massachusetts towns saw the most snow? As pointed out in the article, most of Massachusetts had a coating. Meanwhile some towns/areas saw up to 3.5 inches. Nothing to call Grandam in Florida about, but a little unexpected for December 5.
So, let’s break it down from lowest to highest, using information from the National Weather Service:
- Medford — 0.1 inches
- Boston — 0.1 inches
- Ipswich — 0.5 inches
- Falmouth — 0.5 inches
- Plymouth — 1.7 inches
- Sandwich — 2.0 inches
- Whitman — 2.0 inches
- Kingston — 2.0 inches
- Hingham — 2.0 inches
- Weymouth — 2.3 inches
- Hanover — 3.3 inches
- Rockland — 3.5 inches
- Norwell — 3.5 inches
As you can see, the winner is Norwell. Or loser, if you hate to see the white stuff fall from the sky and land on your yard.
